This collection contains oral histories created or acquired by the New Westminster Museum and Archives. It excludes any oral histories acquired that would be included within individual fonds. |
| Scope & Content |
The collection currently consists of three series: veterans, sports, and miscellaneous. The veteran series contains the histories of veterans of the Second World War with the exception of one, which is of the Korean War. The athletes series contains histories of noted athletes, coaches, and sports enthusiast of New Westminster. The third series, which is the earliest, contains the histories of a variety of people discussing different topics. The subject of the topic (where there is one) has been added to the title of the individual recordings.
The interviews were originally recorded on to audio cassettes. These recordings have been digitized and are now available as mp3 files. At this time, there is no online access but it is hoped that these recordings will eventually be accessible via the archives' online database.
Some of the interviews are not yet available for the public. This is either because a release form is lacking or the subject of the interview requested that the interview not be made publically available. The item level records of these interviews are not viewable in the archives public database. However, the archives will attempt to obtain these releases from the subjects or their families.
The audio quality of the recordings varies. Notes regarding problems with quality have been made at the item level. |
